Wedding Ceremony

Inside the church was a very familiar picture. Phyllis and I saw St. George on his white horse in Sudan many times. This is exactly the same picture.

Someone actually sang "Here comes the Bride" in Arabic for the processional. It's great fun to see the nuns using technology. Couple number one met at a wedding. When the families were gathered to negotiate the wedding, the grooms brother came from Sweden to be part of things. That's how brother number two met the second girl from the Girl's home. Soon two weddings were arranged and seven months later is a double wedding. The one couple will stay in Ankawa and the other will go to Sweden. I have a feeling going to Sweden will be more difficult than staying in Iraq.

This wedding was extremely well represented by the clergy. There were three bishops and 6 priests along with the dozen or so nuns. Most of the clergy were involved in the ceremony. I was expecting a first communion, but there wasn't one. There was a literal tying of the knot around each participants arm though - even the two male and two female attendants. You can see the white ribbons on the grooms' arms, to see the brides' you have to look pretty closely.

  1. Such a fairy like wedding ceremony it was. Thanks a ton my friend for sharing these details here. Even I am going to hire the best event space Atlanta for my big day and would be having the pink décor for the entire ceremony. I have just seen some décor inspirations online and they look beyond this universe.
